Oh but I love this particular "trope" of good vs evil in fantasy. I sincerely hope it never, ever goes out of fantasy literature. Personally, I could care less about what has been done before and what hasn't. I just like a good story and there's no getting around that. There are tons of discussions just like this one on Goodreads...people lamenting the continued existence of the classic elements of fantasy: whether those be elves, dragons, quests or the good vs evil theme. For me, it's these elements that I love about the genre! Again, it all falls back to what the individual prefers to read. Thank goodness we are individuals, with our own specific interests, likes and dislikes. If we were all the same, the world would be a very boring place...lol.

I've tried reading a few of this guy's books, each time without success. Reasons:
- His writing is outright amateurish. The way he handles dialogue (lots of unecessary action following every sentence, charactrers sighing and shaking their heads and twinkling their eyes at each other) reminds me of the deluge of post-Twilight and Hunger Games debut YA authors. I really shouldn't be able to say that about someone who's written as many books as he has.
- World-building. Dear God. The Way of Kings bored me to tears because Sanderson just would not shut up about his oh-so-original fantasy world and just tell the damn story. I refuse to believe *any* single volume of a series needs to be over 1000 pages long; Way of Kings definitely didn't need to be.
Usually it's his god damn magic system he goes into way too much detail about, until I feel like I'm reading a video game walkthrough
- Flat characters. After reading Mistborn I could tell you the following about the characters:
The twinkly-eyed thief guy
Vin? Vann? The heroine who doesn't really have all that much of a personality
The.... prince? I think he was the love interest
A whole bunch of faceless dudes whose names I couldn't keep straight even as I was reading the book
So yeah, Brandon Sanderson. He's a bad writer. 0/10 would not purchase books by him again.

Not to distract from the depth of the current thread flow, I've read Elantris, the Mistborn series, Alloy of Law, Warbreaker ((Which I bought despite the element of his letting it out for free)) and Way of Kings. Words of Radiance is a current target of mine.
