Yeah he is a bit early this year, we are still in Autumn, not winter, but I know friends who's dragon's started even earlier.
Eph burmation is a state of semi-hibernation which beardies go through. It's similar to hibernation, but they are still sort of awake. They don't eat or do anything really for 1-3 months.

Wow. If you didn't know anything about beardies (which I don't), you'd freak out and think they were dead or dying, wouldn't you?

Yes. It's horrible. Even when you know what it is it's horrible. I hate it. Like, you can keep them in the tank, or put them into a box. Leaving an animal in a tiny box, with no food, water or exercise for over a month goes against every single thing in my body. But that's what you're supposed to do and it kills me.

Especially at the beginning. They stop eating and acting lethargic, which is could also be symptoms of a myriad of serious illnesses. Then they just sleep for weeks and don't wake up. Some people choose to not let their dragons brumate, especially here in the states because your season are the opposite of ours, and some beardies will brumate during our summer, which isn't always healthy for them because they miss our warm weather and good sunlight. It's pretty up in the air whether or not it's good to try and stop your beardie from brumating, but I never would because it's not natural and the poor little guys are already out of their element.

Yeah, even though there's nothing we can do about it now it's a shame beardies are in other countries. They should never have left Australia. The first beardies to make it to America were illegally shipped over there

Yeah it's really sad, but I can't deny that I'm glad that they're available to me. They're also available in many other countries that don't have any resemblance to their original climate. We at least have some spots here in the US where a beardie could live in almost the exact same weather. Though, it'll never get as hot here as it does in AU. Makes me wonder how beardies survive in the AU heat.

And they survive in that intense heat with such a seeming look of nonchalance, don't you find? It's like they're thinking, "It's a zillion degrees Fahrenheit and the whole world is on fire? Oh, I didn't even notice."

I still believe that they should have never left their own country, but that's my way of thinking when it comes to a lot of environmental issues. I think people should keep pets that are native to that country, rather than shipping them all over the world. It's way too late to change anything though, humans have already done irreversible damage with introducing animals to places that they shouldn't be. Cats for example, cats should never have been brought to Australia. They aren't native to Australia and house cats go out at night and kill millions of our native birds and wildlife. It's actually gotten to be such a big problem that some communities here are banning cats going outside at all. They have to be kept indoors 100% of the time. Gah, sometimes I wish I could go back in time and just slap people.
