I posted this on TFF, but nobody responded, so let's hope anyone in here has heard about it. I discovered Anthony Ryan's book Blood Song, the first book in his series, on Goodreads, thanks to a friends' review (EDIT: It was Meteorain!). As ASOIAF was the last fantasy series I had read when I discovered it, the bar was set incredibly high, so it took a while until I found a fantasy novel that would meet my expectations - and Blood Song did. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end and I can't wait for the sequel to come out in July, Tower Lord. Has anyone else read it? And if so, do you share my enthusiasm about the series?

I'll definitely have to look into it since it comes with such a high level of recommendation.

Yup, it was Meteorain's comment about the author being way too good to self-publish. I checked the novel's summary after reading this remark and it sounded interesting to me. My s.o. started reading it but didn't read more than a couple of pages, so I guess he didn't enjoy it as much as I did. I loved it, from beginning to end!

"A friend's review". My name lost to annals of the internet.
I am so hyped for the second book. It should be out soon.

I never knew you'd join this forum, so I wasn't sure whether it would make sense to mention a name here only some of the users knew. I changed it just a moment ago, though. I think the second book came out last Tuesday. I'll wait a bit until I get this, though. On the one hand I'd prefer the paperback edition (because my copy of the first book is one), on the other hand I'll want to have/read it when I really have the time to concentrate on reading this instead of work-related stuff.

It came out yesterday in the US.
I've already started reading it. I'm struggling slightly to remember the nations and certain people. Goddamn no super wiki for Raven's Shadow info for a quick update!

I do not have the patience to trawl and make sure the facts are correct!

Because I'm super lazy, let me quote the author's website: Though, to be honest, I'm wondering why the summary mentions Vaelin's dog and horse, because those play only minor roles. His brothers are so much more interesting.

The horse and dog are definitely important.

They are not insignificant, but also not as important as I had expected when reading the summary for the first time. I initially thought the book was mainly about a guy and his two animal companions. Well, he does have those, but they aren't the centre of the story.
