Well, I've seen my first review of the new Godzilla movie, and now I want to check it out. Of course, just because the reviewer loved it, doesn't mean I will. However, I'm willing to give it a chance now whereas before I was highly skeptical. You can see that review here. What do you guys think?

I'm excited to see it, but I've always loved monster movies and giant reptiles.

Me too. I just didn't see the sense in anyone but Toho making a Godzilla film is all. This does look like it has the potential to actually engage me though.
The last thing I remember watching that was anywhere in this vein was Pacific Rim. For me, it was Guillermo Del Toro's most disappointing film yet. The human element of the story was idiotically handled and simplistic which is very surprising coming from a director of his calibre. I expected more from him than that. Thank God the scenes between the giant robots and giant creatures were suitably spectacle filled, so the movie wasn't a total loss.
I do hope Godzilla isn't just a repeat of that.

The last Godzilla film I saw was the Godzilla 2000 movie.

I'm looking forward to it. I've been intentionally not reading reviews because I want everything to be fresh and unprejudiced.

I couldn't disagree more. Pacific Rim was fantastic, but rather to explain my view first. Can you tell us why you think that the human element of the story was idiotically handled and simplistic, as you put it?

I'd love to get your views on why you think Pacific Rim was fantastic, Cascador, so I'm just gonna start a thread dedicated solely to it!

I saw this tonight and enjoyed it a lot. I felt some of the human characters were a little flat, but Godzilla and friends more than made up for that.

I am a fan of the original; not even dubbed Godzilla and ones that followed. I saw the Matthew Broderick Godzilla and to me that's just a great monster movie; its not Godzilla.
But this new movie; I loved it. A few characters could be described as a little flat yes; but to me the movie is not about the people; its about Godzilla and he was spot on. I love how they have a much more original looking Godzilla then a few in the past.
If your a Godzilla fan or a monster movie fan; this movie is a must see on the big screen.

Yes I liked that Godzilla was much more traditional looking in this film as well, much better than the last one which just looked like a t-rex.

From what little I've seen, the monster himself looks very cool. Very much like the original.
