Thread for only 'Sullied'. No spoilertags here.... Unless if someone hasn't read all the books yet. We'll stay cautious with spoilers, but we don't have to be as cautious as on the TV series threads. Plus this is not only for A Song of Ice And Fire, but also George's other work. Atm I've only read the Hedge Knight and the sequel next to 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.

At this point, I've actually found his SF novellas/novelettes to be a lot more interesting then ASoIaF, like A Song for Lya, Sandkings, and Portraits of his Children, all of which won either a Hugo, Nebula, or both. I also enjoyed a few of his other short stories, most notably "The Ice Dragon," "The Glass Flower," "Unsound Variations," and "With Morning Comes Mistfall." I think I've read Dying of the Light at some point and I must have not found it that memorable, because I don't remember a single thing about it.

Are his other works as depressing as ASoIaF?

Not all is. I mean I read like the Hedge Knight, which takes place in Westeros, but long before the main story. And it is certainly not as grim as ASOIAF, nor with so many death. But it's interesting to delve more into the history of Westeros and you hear about this characters, namely Duncan the Tall, who Duncan the Small was named after in ASOIAF.

It would be nice to read some GRRM that didn't make me feel physically ill. I liked his writing style, just not the content. The history of Westeros would be cool to read about. I'd like to know how the Targaryens became the blood of the dragon!
