Who here plays Minecraft?
I bought it for my wife on PS3 yesterday, and have been tinkering with the tutorial mode so far. I like that the game play is accessible, but that there seems to be a lot of depth there too. I can't wait for her to get stuck into it!
I'm hoping that this will prove to be not too difficult for her to play as she's not very good at video games (this is by her own admission so I'm not trying to be mean here).

I've only ever played it on PC where you can get a bunch of modpacks and such.
Here's something I watched just recently that was built in the game.
These people use shaders and texture packs to make it all look prettier.

That video is very cool. I've watched half of it so far. The possibilities seem to be almost endless in this game! I think wifey will have fun making stuff in it!

I didn't realize how long that was.
Yeah it is pretty crazy just how many things you can really do.

I played it years ago for a short time but found it hard to get into. I like seeing what people create in it though.

The most fun is always in my case playing with other people and working together with them.
In the past there was a server with Yuan, Kakashi, Delarmgo, one of Yuan's friends I think, and Overread. Sevi made an attempt but couldn't really play.
Every so often I'd log in and Del would have made this absolutely MASSIVE thing overnight.

You'd have to have a fairly good idea of what you want to build and the materials required, which would suggest to me that an intimate knowledge of the game and its workings would be a necessity. There's so much depth to it, it seems. I just hope it holds wifey's attention as she's the one who wanted this game in the first place. We'll see how it goes... As for me, if there's a facility for more than one save slot, then I think I'll start my own game too... What kinds of things have you built so far, Sorillon? Are there things I should be aware of before I start my own game?

In Vanilla Minecraft? Hrm.
I'm not altogether sure how PS3 Minecraft works.
I'll look into it for you.
In the PC version it allows you to set up multiple worlds.

Thanks for that. Any small thing you think of would be an enormous help for sure.

Oh.
Well.
These are pretty universal tips, possibly spoilers?
Be inside at night, at least at first. That's when all the baddies spawn.
Don't dig directly down or up, because you could fall into a cave, lava could pour from above, or gravel or sand fall on your head.
In the PC version it is possible to swim up vertical columns of water as long as you stay on the edge so you don't drown.
Don't look at the faces of the creepy Endermen. If you're wearing a pumpkin it is fine.
You will learn to despise creepers with all your being.

also if you just want to make really cool stuff there is a create option that gives you all the materials. it's a bit cheep but if you don't feel like going around and finding all the stuff yourself there is that particular option. at least it's there for the 360 version.

Thanks, Midnattblod. I'll be taking a closer look at the game on the weekend...

I wish you gamed on the PC, Rust is so good and now I'm upset that you're going to be playing minecraft instead *cries*.... but really, who am I kidding, if I ever get the cash I'll probably want to play minecraft as well loll.

I would love nothing more than to game with you online some day, Liv the Librarian. I think that would be grand! However, if I don't keep games off my PC, I'll always be playing those rather than colouring my comics, and then I'd never get anything done ever again. Maybe if you get a Wii U one day, we might be able to do something (or even on the PS3). It would just depend on whatever the game was, I suppose! As for Minecraft, that didn't happen this weekend. We ended up doing other stuff instead. Oh well, at least this other stuff was more fun. Hee hee...
