I've been toying with the idea to buy one of those Kinect thingies for my Xbox 360, and today I saw it's finally affordable at my local GameStop.
Does anyone here have it? And if so, what games do you play that use Kinect? I'd be really interested in fitness games (anything Wii Fit-ish), so I'm currently doing a little research on fitness games that are worth buying.

I think Midnattblod might be able to answer this one...

the only Kinect required game I ever really wanted to try for the 360 was Kinect Adventures. from what I've been told, the first gen Kinect is a bit cumbersome. plus you will have to make sure you have enough room or else you'll have to get the Neko Zoom as well. I also thought Nike+ looked pretty cool.

What's the Neko Zoom?

it was made for smaller spaces. because not all people who had one had 6 feet of clear space it was made to allow for less space and whatnot. my buddy had to get one and from what he said it helped greatly though he stopped using it when it was leaked that the US government was using able to spy through them.

So, were they made by a third party, or was it Microsoft?

I don't really find it worth it. The games exclusive for Kinect might be fun games to play inbetween. And maybe it's a nice add-on for games that can use the Kinect. I believe for Skyrim for example you do do shouts through the Kinect and with Mass Effect 3 you could order your companions around.

I think I'd also just use it in between playing other games. Although I'm seriously thinking about getting one of those "Your Shape" games (you get achievements for burning calories? Aaaaawwwwww yyyyeeeeaaaahhhhhh) I'm not sure whether I'll really use it that much. :S

Yup, you'd want to be pretty sure you'll use it. We got ourselves Wii Fit Plus a year ago (with the Balance Board and everything), and while it's quite good neither my wife nor I have used it much at all. Now it's just sitting there. So much for best intentions...

I don't have any interest in the kinect myself. I guess the fitness games would be okay, but aside from that I couldn't see myself using it at all. None of the games it uses look any good.

Now that I've thought about it and read your opinions I've changed my mind. I'm planning not to buy Kinect this summer, but will reconsider in autumn, when the weather changes and I have an excuse not to leave the house. I suppose working out at home in summer is not the best idea.

Sorry for the double post, but I feel like updating this as I bought a (used) Kinect sensor two weeks ago, and I've played a couple of games with it so far. I got a Kinect Sports game, which is quite fun, especially because I can play it in co-op mode with my s.o. and it features 6 different types of sports of which 5 are really fun to play (the 6th is American football, which I don't get - neither the game itself nor how to play it in this game); and the game Fable - The Journey, which is... okay. You have to sit while playing and just have to use your arms most of the time, and you can't lean back or cross your legs, so I couldn't play it longer than about 1-2 at a time. Last Friday I received my third Kinect-only game, which is the one I've enjoyed most so far: Your Shape 2012. I remember mentioning achievements for burning calories in one of my posts above, and that's the game that has these achievements. I used it to set up my (weight-loss) objectives and tried different workouts, and I'm planning to play this game at least three times a week for 30-minute-workouts. The game keeps track of how many calories you've burned, it saves your scores, and awards you with virtual medals or badges for reaching certain milestones or completing different stages of a workout, so when I tried it on Friday it kept me motivated even when I felt like I was doing some of the exercises wrong (although the 'narrator' sometimes corrected me when I did, which was great). The result: Sore thigh muscles. I'll definitely keep playing this.

I tried "Your Shape" for PC once and it was awful. It doesn't sound like the version you have though Firi. The one I had was pretty discouraging. The virtual "instructor" kept up a steady barrage of "you're not doing it right" commentary and she looked like a Barbie doll. While I liked the exercise (even though I could never apparently do the movements properly), I gave up on it because I wanted to throttle the Barbie doll...lol.
