Something I've never understood is why instagram is so popular. I see people posting instagram photos to Facebook and tumblr every single day and they always look awful. Almost all of our phones now are equipped with really great HD and high quality cameras. We can take amazing photos with them, yet people put them on instagram which has a size limit, compresses the shit out of the photos and makes them look blurry and pixelated.
I know a lot of people travelling around Europe right now and they keep posting all these awful-quality pixelated and blurry photos on Facebook from Instagram. The thing that gets me is that I know these people took these photos on their phones, and they would have looked amazing and crisp and clear when they were taken. Yet for some reason they had the mentality of "oh this photo looks good, I better turn it into a pixelated mess before I show my friends".
Now I know instagram is supposed to be viewed on your phone, and they probably don't look as bad on there, but everyone I know with an instagram account also shares it to FB where it looks awful. Does anyone understand this because I don't. And I'm sick of seeing really gross bad quality photos on my FB feed everyday.

I'm still in the dark as to what instagram really is. I know it's a photo sharing thing but I don't understand what's so popular about it. what happened to the good old days of taking pictures and putting them in a photo album? or even putting them onto a compact disc and showing them off that way.

I don't know, it confuses me as well. People like the filters. I guess they have never heard of photshop where you can do it all yourself and make it look much better.

I'm not a big fan of Instagram myself, but I'm trying it out for "marketing" purposes. Everyone and their dog and cat and imaginary friends are on it so I'm on it too. I want more of an internet presence so I'm going with the social network things that are popular.
I kind of like the filters but I do agree that the compression and stuff makes the images look awful.

Tumblr dude, tumblr. It's just as easy to set up as instagram. Instagram is for holiday shots, photos of food and photos of drinks/ semi naked bodies to show off how good you look. Where as tumblr is a site FULL of artists, animators, comic artists etc. An entire cartoons series was made through tumblr! That's where you need to take crumble cult, not somewhere like instagram.

I'm definitely going to add a Tumblr site to the list. I've heard that it's a big thing from you and other people. I just hope it's fairly flexible and user friendly.

I've never used Instagram before, although I've seen that people often link their Instagram photos on Twitter - which has always made me wonder why they don't just use Twitpic. I've also never used Tumblr before. I use Soup.io instead, but you find lots of reposts from Tumblr there, so I do get why you'd prefer to use Tumblr instead of Instagram

It is it will literally only take you 20 minutes to set up and start using an account. What's Soup.io Firiath? I've never heard of it.

It's a tumbleblog, and I think it comes from Austria. It's mostly used by Polish people and Austrians/Germans (as far as I know), so it's by far not as popular as Tumblr, abd it's also much simpler than that.

Simpler than tumblr? I didn't think anything could be more simple that tumblr, it's so basic and easy to use that it's almost too limited in it's options.

Tumblr is more of a porn site in my eyes. And fandoms.
Not much respect for artists when it comes to photography and art. There's a lot of stealing going on, people the log and remove the artists and so on.

I do see that from time to time, but I also see a good side of tumblr, I know a lot of artists and animators who get a lot of credit and become well-known through tumblr. Some people have also funded art books, comic series, and now even a cartoon series entirly through their tumblr fanbase. I follow over 100 blogs and porn has never been on my dash. I know there are heaps of porn tumblrs but they are there for the people who seek them out, it's all up to the types of blogs you follow.

I did see one case recently where an artist had a design they made stolen by a clothing company who put it all over t-shirts, jackets and everything and started to sell it. The artist got a lawyer involved and the company had to stop selling all the stock with the logo on it and withdraw it straight away.

Unfortunately, your art can get swiped anywhere once you put it up on the net. Hell, mine's probably been swiped at least once or twice and I don't even know about it.
