In Brotherhood you could play as a female in the co-op. I'm not upset that Unity has a male lead, just that you can't play as a female even in the four-player co-op. I feel like they have gone backwards from Brotherhood in that aspect. But yeah, it's not likely to happen but I guess we can only hope that one day an AC game, released on all the AAA platforms will have a female lead. That's not likely though, in the mean time I'd just be happy with a female in the co-op but they even took that away.

They were defensive when it came to an accusation of this exact problem:
The development team had intended for players to choose the co-op characters' gender, but it was abandoned due to time constraints. "It's double the animations, it's double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets," Amancio explained. "Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work." Assassin's Creed III animation director Jonathan Cooper criticized this reason, stating, "In my educated opinion, I would estimate this to be a day or two's work. Not a replacement of 8000 animations," explaining "Walk/run cycles and idles are the easiest way to define a character. Everything else is androgynous." He also revealed Aveline de Grandpré shared more animations with Ratonhnhaké:ton than Edward Kenway.
In response, Ubisoft issued the following statement:
"Assassin's Creed Unity is focused on the story of the lead character, Arno. Whether playing by yourself or with the co-op shared experiences, you the gamer will always be playing as Arno, complete with his broad range of gear and skill sets that will make you feel unique. With regard to diversity in our playable Assassins, we've featured Aveline, Connor, Adéwalé and Altaïr in Assassin's Creed games and we continue to look at showcasing diverse characters. We look forward to introducing you to some of the strong female characters in Assassin's Creed Unity."

Haha yeah I saw that statement all over the web last week. It's exactly what I hate about this industry, the whole "look we did it once, we had a female once so you can't be mad now, we don't have to do it again".
And yeah, I agree with that Cooper guy, as someone who is studying computer animation myself the whole "it's too hard" thing just sounds like an excuse, or it makes the developer out to be a bunch of babies who don't know what females look like or what they act like.

I feel like they're getting lazy. I'm not saying their games are terrible but I feel like they are going to start focusing more effort into newer IPs and Assassin's Creed will just be a money getter for them cause they know there are going to be people who just eat it up all the way without really caring. you see the same with CoD. there hasn't been a good CoD game since MW2, and a lot of people will either say that MW, or WaW are the best in the series, yet Activision is still making boatloads of money off the franchise because there are so many people who still go out and buy the games.

And that is what is going to stop making good games from really being made. Hollywood went through a similar fate. Films so hollow but with nice special effects that people watch them anyway. And as long as those movies sell, Hollywood will keep making them. Same with COD, as long as people keep buying them, Activision will keep making them and I surely hope Assassin's Creed won't go through the same fate. In the end a lot of studios work on the game, which explains why they can deliver a good game on a yearly basis. However they could be so much better if Ubisoft spent more time on them and actually put some innovation in them. I get the feeling Unity will be a good game, that will be better than Black Flag though. I think the new way of Parkour, and other movements will give the gameplay a boost.

I hope for the sake of the franchise that they can start pulling things around. Unity will probably ride on the fact that the new consoles give them a lot more wiggle room, but after a few years of the same game, they are going to start losing the core fanbase, and all you'll see is fanboys. I really hope I'm wrong in this view but it has to be looked at. the games are already annoyingly different to the original two (in my opinion) and I just hope they can pull it around and start innovating more each year or even go back on what they said years ago and not release one every year. I don't really see that last part happening though.

Is the Guillotine Collector's Edition available only at the Ubisoft store or normally on other stores too?
