Has anyone played this game? I started it last night but it got so intense that I had to stop for a while.

I played it and liked it a whole lot. I feel like it got more hype than it deserved though. Some of the storytelling mechanics worked great and others irked me and felt overdone.
I'll wait until you beat it to explain more about why, it is a pretty quick game if you are booking it, but it isn't that kind of game which was a good change of pace.

I get creeped out very easily, and I was playing this game with Dolby 7.1 surround sound headphones and the atmosphere was so intense that I had to stop. Next time I play I'm going to play in the day instead of at night, but I will hopefully finish soon.

I know I could just Google this information but for the sake of keeping this thread going I'm going to ask what it's about. Anything that creeps Crouton out must be pretty... well, creepy, and therefore intrigues me...

This game is the kind where any prior knowledge is kind of spoilery, even expectations to how it plays. Best to go in blind I say. I would recommend it.

Anything that creeps Crouton out must be pretty... well, creepy, and therefore intrigues me... I knew a little bit before I played. I don't think it spoiled anything for me. It's basically an exploration game. You play a young girl arriving back at her family home after travelling. You arrive on a dark, stormy night, and no one is home. You have to explore through the house. I don't think that gives any real spoilers, but damn, the atmosphere in the house is so tense and creepy, I was too scared to open doors haha.

That's a shame. Maybe one day it will go to PS3 or something.

I know enough about outlast. It has some good ideas but lots of the stuff in the game is bad from like a story telling perspective and kind of insensitive sometimes with bad themes. Like the DLC that came out for it is a whole thing, ugh.
Gone Home is a far cry from other horror games. I can't say more other than you need to play it yourself.

raoh as a horror games lover and...can I say expert? I will tell you that Outlast is fantastic. The story is a tiny bit of cliche, but in a good way. They used jump-scares but in a good way and they didn't overdo it with the jump-scares.For me it's the best horror game that came out since Amnesia. But I'm interested in Gone Home now that you guys mentioned it.

It is all opinion man. I don't care for Outlast because it is big on edgy naked people and gore violence horror, I need horror that gets in the mind and really rattles you. You always know what to expect to some degree with these first person horror games, recently I played Clock Tower for the SNES and the gritty pixelated style along with mystery of how things would look and happen charmed me. Gone Home is good but if we are really going to genre it I'd say it is more of a mystery/point and click/horror kind of thing. The horror genre is kind of starving for creativity and Outlast like you said was good but cliche. I'd rather see nutty stuff done poorly rather than a safe standard with this stuff.
