Maybe you should knock over or break something of hers. That'll learn her!

See, I someday want nice things, and our couch is torn to shreds by our cats. It really burns my bottom that I can't rain these animals *huffs*

I had a friend tell me that cats aren't very good at being trained or taught things. She reckons that they learn better by discovering things for themselves. I guess she'd know. She is a cat owner after all.
Has this been anyone else's experience? (Naturally, I'm asking the cat owners here.)

Cats are unruly and stubborn, but they're pretty smart. I won't dare say that they're clever, because they're not that, but than can figure things out really easily and usually don't give up until they have. I think dogs are smarter, though. I tend to find that animals that hold intelligence can be trained, like humans for instance.
Also, waaay back in the beginning of humanity and civilization, we started domesticating "dogs" (they weren't anything like dogs these days). So, dogs learned to love us. Cats domesticated themselves. They saw the benefits of humanity and having someone care for them, so they learned to let us love them. So see, dogs have sort of an innate want to be around us while cats have an innate objective for being around us.

So, really, cats are more self serving. That makes sense actually. I always kind of figured they were like that.

Cats are very self-serving! I'm sure they consider their human family as their staff. My cat continues her fiendish acts of wanton destruction: she knocked a little jar of stuff off my dresser and broke it. She is forthwith banned from my bedroom!!!!!

I think I'll be a dog person forever. It will take a lot to convince me otherwise. I don't dislike cats. I just really like dogs.

Our cats have been banned from our bedroom for about a year and half now. I just couldn't handle being woken up by them knocking stuff over on my dresser or side table. Plus, they always drank my water and knocked it over when they were done too. Sigh.

Now I keep finding little buttons and other miscellaneous things that were in that jar in my t-shirt drawer. I got my cat one of those little balls that cat food falls out of when they play with it. Within 24 hours she had figured out how to get the food out of it. I took a quick video of her eating this morning. Seriously... what a great invention! Cats like to hunt so really, this is a much more natural way for her to eat than just picking food out of a bowl.

Can you give me the name of that product? We need more cat toys to help keep the cats out of trouble

Do you still feed yours out of a bowl, or solely out of this?

Right now: solely out of this. I imagine it also works well for those cats who gorge on food and then vomit afterward. This thing forces them to slow down.

We have an obese cat and can't really stop her from eating as much as she does. She doesn't usually throw up afterward, but this might be a good thing for her. We'd have to get 2 because they'd fight over it lol.
What are some of your favourite cat toys? Even though I kind of hate our cats, I understand that they're animals and still need stimulation and just because I hate them doesn't mean I won't treat them right (I even pet them still because it's not really their fault). We really need cat toys.
