A Black Widow film has been listed for a 2015 release. I feel like they have teased us with this before then cancelled it many times already, but if this one does stick around and actually come to be, will you see it? I will be first in line.

If this is for real then yes, count me in. I think a decent female superhero film has been a long time coming.

Yeah, all we've had is trainwrecks like Elektra and Catwoman, which has unfortunate put a curse on all female driven superhero films for years now. Such a shame. At least with films like Hunger Games and Divergent doing really well in the cinema those movie big wigs now see that yes, people will see action movies with female leads. It's not as unheard of as they seem to think.

Agreed. Especially when you look at something like the Hunger Games movies. I honestly wasn't interested in seeing them but when I finally did check out the first one, I was hooked. And when the second turned out to be even better, I knew then that I was going to be sticking around to see how it all ends.
Really, that's all they need to do. Just tell a decent story with a decent female protagonist. It really shouldn't be that difficult.

Tarantino was able to do it with Kill Bill. In fact those movies are kind of amazing. They are full on action movies with 4 of the main characters being female and only 2 being male. We had basically not seen something like that before, and haven't seen much like that since. Yet people didn't care because they were good movies. When people say "female action movies don't work" it's like everyone has forgotten about Kill Bill.

That's a good point. You have to wonder what it will take before people will stop saying, "Female action movies don't work."

Hopefully it'll be the same day people stop asking questions to artists like "why do you write strong female characters" instead of just asking about the character themselves.

We recently saw Kill Bill volume 1&2 again. I don't think a Black Widow could live up to those films. Really superhero films are mostly mediocre mostly imo. They're entertaining. There's rarely something that a film amazes me with these. Sometimes they do surprise me like with Captain America. I don't like him, but I thought the first film was pretty good and I'm pretty sure I'll like the second film. The Dark Knight trilogy was pretty good. Tim Burton's Batman films & Superman 1& 2. The rest was just entertaining or worse unfortunately. But these movies have set the norm these days which is not good. It's why I am very sceptical about the new Star Wars films.
Concerning Black Widow, she is a great character, but to have her in her own standalone film will be difficult, however with supporting cast of other superheroes, it might succeed and become a franchise of its own.

Well, I never actually said the Black Widow film could live up to Kill Bill, because I know that it can't. In fact, to me very few films can live up to those films as they are some of my all time favourites. I merely mentioned it because a lot of people in Hollywood have been saying for many years now that female-driven action films don't work, but Kill Bill is proof that they can, they just need to be given a chance.

Not just a good chance, but a good story and good director. That's why Kill Bill worked so well.

Yes, it's also why Catwoman and Elektra didn't work well haha. So many people point to those two films and say "look, it can't be done, they were terrible". They weren't bad because they had female leads, they were bad because they were crappy, poorly made films. I hear the same argument over and over, it's so childish.

I agree, they were bad films. But that had little to do with them having female leads. Unfortunately it still had something to do with them having female leads, because a part of cinema viewers isn't interested in movies with female leads, which is why you had more superhero films for example with male leads. The majority has been male leads, because studios know they have a greater chance to make money. It's only people who are not afraid to take risks, have good writing, acting and directing on their side that make films with female leads work.

Mm it's true, and it's a shame. Although times are slowly changing. And even though I'm not the biggest fan films like The Hunger Games and Divergent are to thank. You're seeing this change everywhere. Toy companies are even making little pink crossbows and guns now marketed just at girls. I think it's only a matter of time till this mentality spills into the comic book world as well. Or at least, the comic book film world. Studios need to stop being chicken.

For Black Widow? Nope, it's only in it's VERY early stages. At this point some people are still debating whether it's rumour or not. So a trailer is a long way off.
