To prevent the thread "where everytime you visit, you have to make a post" from becoming a Dark Souls thread, let's discuss the two Souls game in here. And I'd say it's easiest if we used this thread for both games instead of having to jump between threads to talk about the series. This exact same thing happened to my partner when he started DS2 yesterday! I was sat next to him like, "Maybe you're supposed to attack the dogs..?" Yeah maybe not LOL And being Invaded is horrible, and I've never actually summoned anyone because can't you summon them for help but then they kill you anyways? That's what I'm scared of.

in Dark Souls 2 there are summon signs where it's an invader. I don't know if they have it in the first one though. I'm only in Undeadburg right now.

Be wary of beating to a pulp. Nah, not true. There are worse places than Darkroot Basin. I'd even say it's really comfy down there as soon as the Hydra is gone. If only that wasn't such a pain in the behind. Or, as Dark Souls 2 players like to call it, "but hole". That reminds me of an awesome message my brother found in front of the Old Iron King's boss arena: "Weakness: trapping inside but hole"

good luck though I don't really know what that place is like. It's as Firiath says. Darkroot Basin is actually quite nice... if it weren't for that freaking Hydra thingy. I tried to fight it once, but the water slowed me down to a crawl. Gah. So... you're NOT supposed to attack the dogs? You're supposed to what then? Pet them and hope they don't kill you? The makers of that game sure have a sadistic sense of humour. in Dark Souls 2 there are summon signs where it's an invader. I don't know if they have it in the first one though. Don't worry, those summon signs are red. I think it's the same in both games. Ordinary ones are white, and those phantoms can't attack you - otherwise I would have accidentally killed my brother a thousand times with my large club. The yellow signs are like the white ones, but the phantoms are sunbros (I am one in Dark Souls 2, because Praise the Sun!!). Those phantoms are just like their summon signs either white or yellow. And the invader's signs are red. I toyed with the idea to summon an invader the last time I saw one close to a bonfire, because even if I had died, I would have been able to retrieve my souls easily. Didn't do it though, because I didn't have the guts was too busy praising the sun.

Reading all this makes me question why I'm still playing this at all. I love this game so much. Except when I'm cursing its name. Ha ha.

Whoa, what the hell. My s.o. has never had an XBL Gold membership, so he's had to play Dark Souls entirely on his own. Today he loaded the game (and had to accept the terms & conditions again) and was suddenly able to see phantoms, messages and blood stains, which he's never seen before as an offline player. He just beat the Pursuer with a phantom and a shade and we can't explain why he's suddenly able to play online. O__o
Any clues?

That's... weird. I wonder if it's some kind of temporary hiccup in the network or something?

that's odd if he's not on XBL then I don't see how he can. I'm drawing blanks just thinking about it. is he on the free XBL? cause if he is I go with Tal's thought that it could be a server hiccup.

I think it was. My internet connection is always reset around 2am, and after this had happened he wasn't able to play online anymore. Well, it was great while it lasted. And yeah, he's never had an XBL gold membership before and at first he wondered whether I had used his gamertag with a 48h trial membership.

Double-posting again. Someone please tell me if you want me to stop this. :S After a long break I played some more Dark Souls today, with my lvl 173 pyromancy/dex build in NG+. I had planned to make this my perfect playthrough, in which I'd finish all NPC quest lines, gather all embers (to get all weapon upgrade types) as well as sorceries and miracles. I actually got quite far today, despite playing alone - I defeated (the?) Ceaseless Discharge (the easy way), wasted what felt like hundreds of poison arrows to kill of dozens of Minor Capra/Taurus Demons, got both embers in the Demon Ruins, and traversed the fog gate of which I didn't remember what was behind it. Got killed by the Firesage Demon, lost around 400,000 souls there - went back in, picked up my souls and humanity, and fled with a Homeward Bone. I'll deal with him later. And in contrast to what I messed up in my first playthrough I killed the Chaos Bugs and got the Sunlight Maggot before entering Lost Izalith, so this time I'll probably be able to finish Solaire's quest line. I messed up Siegmeyer's, though. He died in Lost Izalith and I couldn't turn off the Xbox quick enough. :[ Killed a couple of dragon a**es (which I realised are called Bounding Demon of Izalith) in the dragon a** hell, and then turned to the Duke's Archives and the Crystal Caves. Killed Seath the Scaleless (and was invaded shortly before fighting him, but the invader died somehow, probably by falling to his death) and afterwards crazy Big Hat Logan. Got the last sorcery I still needed for my collection, as well as the last missing ember. Tomorrow I'll hunt for Blue Titanite Slabs, so I can fully upgrade a Magic Weapon.

I haven't played this for SO long. I'll probably suck even more at it now. Sigh.
