Thread to discuss the works of Quentin Tarantino. Love him or hate him, come talk about it here.
Personally I love his films and always have. My favourites are the Kill Bills and Death Proof. It's always really exciting for me when he releases a new film, and I hate that huge wait in between projects.

He's a bit of an odd cat, is Mr Tarantino, but I absolutely adore his films. He hasn't made a dud one yet, even if some of his later efforts have been a wee bit... well, bloated.
Of all of them, Jackie Brown is easily my favourite, closely followed by Death Proof and Pulp Fiction. He has such an ear for dialogue, and all of his characters are engagingly idiosyncratic too. There'll never be another director like Quentin Tarantino, I'm thinking.

I really like Pulp Fiction, From Dusk till Dawn, and Inglorious Basterds. Tarantino is pretty much a genius when it comes to revitalizing the style of old Westerns. I love how over the top he is with some things, and the man knows how to tell a story.

While I agree that Tarantino is a great story-teller, his films are definitely not for me...lol. Django, while great in some ways, almost made me sick.

From what I've seen Tarantino's biggest criticism from his haters is that he uses to many ideas/scenes/songs etc from other films. But too me that's a part of his charm. He's not just "stealing" ideas from other films and reusing them, remixing previous ideas is the very nature of how he makes films. Look at Kill Bill, each of those films is like a blanket which was knitted together using fabric from about 30 different B-movies and old movies most people haven't even seen. Yes he used their ideas, but he turned them into something amazing, and never tries to pretend like that's not what he's doing.

I loved Django Unchained. It really surprised me and thought was even better than Inglorious Bastards. That's another good film, I really like. Because I wasn't such a fan of Death Proof. Don't get me wrong, I really liked it, but I don't think it's one of his best. Kill Bill was of course very good. His masterpiece is still probably Pulp Fiction. Jackie Brown comes close to the lead.

I actually didn't love Django. I liked it, a lot. I thought it was an amazing film. But compared to some of his other works I just didn't like it as much. I'm not sure why. Kill Bill, Death Proof and Basterds all rate higher for me.
Did you guys hear about his film that got leaked? He was writing a script for a Western and the script got leaked out. So he decided to cancel the whole film.

Yes! The Hateful Eight. Got leaked and there were rumours that it was going to be released as a novel. But yeah that serious infuriated him.

Oh yeah that's right, it was sort of a satire of The Magnificent Seven wasn't it? I'd read it if it was published as a book.

I'm not sure if it was going to be a satire, but yes it was kind of based on the magnificent seven (which is based on the seven samurai). I'm not sure what the current state of affairs is concerning the script. What Tarantino will do now. I think he was going to do something else. I'm sure I read that, which is a shame. And we'll see if the Hateful Eight still makes it as a novel.

Yeah, I actually knew satire wasn't the right word. But all the words that popped into my head were wrong haha, like satire, spin-off, parody, spoof etc. They are all wrong, but I knew the two films were connected in some way.

It's a damn shame that some *ahem*hole leaked the script because the title alone is brilliant. Can you imagine the film Tarantino would have made with that on the poster? Last I read (on IGN or somewhere like that) he'd changed his mind again and was considering going back to it as a film project but with a significant script rewrite. I sincerely hope that's true.

According to what I read on IMDB the film is still in development and there's rumours of an actor who confirmed filming starts in November.

I tend not to trust IMDb for early development information. It's like Wikipedia, anyone at all can change it and it's often inaccurate.
