ok so I just got my Xbox One over the weekend and I figured I'd make a review on it. I think I will just do a pros and cons sort of thing. and then I will have a small review on the Kinect after the actual console.
so let's begin.
Pros:
playing a game like Forza helps bring out all the console is capable of. while it doesn't seem overly better then the tail end of the Xbox 360 releases, the graphics are a bit better and the lighting is almost too good. racing down a straight with the sun shining right into your car (if you play from the cockpit view) is almost blinding, which I like because that's what actual race car drivers have to deal with so it brings in some realism. I haven't really played a game with an actual AI yet so I can't say if the more powerful technology behind the Xbox One surpasses that aspect of gaming compared to the 360. the reason I say that is that Forza doesn't have a traditional AI. you're racing other people through what are dubbed Drivatars.
other then actual gameplay, the console comes with the ability to download something while turned off automatically. so in other words if you have to go to work but you just bought a new game either disc or off of Live you can turn off your console and when you get home it'll be done and ready to play. I like this because for the longest time I didn't know the option existed on the 360.
the controller feels just as amazing as the 360 controller did (at least if you thought it felt amazing in your hands. I did but I'm sure not everyone did so yea). they decided to forgo the battery pack just sticking out of the back for a compartment within the controller itself that you flip out and throw the batteries into. the analog sticks feel firmer too which is a nice improvement.
it's also really cool to be able to leave the game you're playing to check something on the dashboard, though at this current point in time I haven't seen a great use for it yet.
Cons:
the dashboard has been compressed into three (3) sections. you have Pins, Home, and Store. it's kinda confusing at first how to get around and I've found that this is where the Kinect comes in handy (but more on that in a bit). the reason I put this as a con is because if you want to adjust your settings, and you don't know how to get to settings with the Kinect, you have to press what was the start button (don't know what they're calling it now but it just has 3 parralel lines on it) and go down to settings and so on and so forth. a bit time consuming compared to just going all the way over on the 360. there is also no guide button. the Xbox button is now used to turn on and off your controller/console and to return home from a game. if you get a message or achievement you can hold the button to see it but you have to hold it for a while.
the only bad thing about the controller is that it feels very fragile. compared to the 360 controller, this one feels like if you were to grip it too tight it will shatter in your hands.
IT'S PRICEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kinect
Pros: it's a cool feeling to walk into your room and say 'Xbox on' and just watch that light turn on. also the Kinect is imperative if you want to navigate the dashboard easily without looking for something for half an hour.
Cons:
you have to know the commands or else you'll feel like an idiot trying to tell your Xbox to do something. also I have experienced issues with it not recognizing me so I have to go through a few things in order to sign in though most of it is doable with the Kinect commands.
Final Grade
Console:
7/10
it could have been a bit better but I still am loving it. I feel like Microsoft is trying to push the Kinect too hard and that's a bit disconcerting. but all in all a good system and I expect I will be spending a lot of time on it.
Kinect:
5/10
it's necessary to have it if you want to navigate the dashboard but other then that not much use except to make someone lazy.
I do actually recommend the Xbox One, but I know that everyone has their preference and I respect that. but if you ever feel like getting something on the side I recommend picking this up. and if you do, send me a friend request. I need more XBL friends lol.
ok so that's my review. I hope it helps and if you don't like the setup of the review let me know and I will change it up next time.
so from your reviewer for the people (me) thank you in advance for reading this. and NO I AM NOT AN XBOX FANBOY. it just happens to be what I decided to pick up. one of these days I will have all the consoles and be in gamer heaven (or Valhalla for me) lol. if I forgot anything I will add it in the reply section. same goes for additional information such as the way the AI works in the games, though that's usually the game developers area but I hope that the new gen of consoles helps in that regard.
