Actually Eurovision has become an "alliances voting" thing the last 10 years or so.For example,Greece votes 12 for Cyprus,Cyprus 12 for Greece.Russia,Belarus,Armenia and sometimes Ukraine vote each other.Baltics vote each other,Scandinavians vote each other most of the time. It's kind of a "neighbor" voting or "alliances voting" most of the times.
And the other thing is that Eurovision has become a fanfare. Not a serious song contest, but a stupid circus. You've got actors,performers,dancers...etc.

Haha, everyone knows Eurovision is all about the politics, but it's at least an all-inclusive competition that doesn't discriminate against religion, race, gender or sexual orientation. It's just hilarious that Russia feels so threatened by that aspect of it that they want to make their own close-minded discriminatory version.

It's a European-wide song contest, where each European country enters one song, then via process of elimination and votes get down to one winner. It was started post WW2 in an attempt to ease the tension between European countries.

*facepalm* This is embarrassing, Russia. Truly embarrassing. Also, I never really bothered about the Eurovision Song Contest, it sometimes even got on my nerves, but this year I watched it for the first time and I have to say Conchita Wurst was impressive. Not because of the beard, or the show, but the song was really great. I've had that song stuck in my head since last Sunday!

It wasn't my favourite song of the night, but I thought she was good. I watch Eurovision every year, but mostly because the Australian hosts that go over are really funny. Their commentary turns the thing into a giant comedy show and it's great.

Actually there could be more countries in the Eurovision but they don't take part.Countries like...I think Morroco,Egypt and Lebanon and some other ones.Arabs have very strong songs and incredible voices,I've got a lot of arabic music albums and well I used to listen mainly to arabic and oriental pop and lounge 10 years ago. They have some of the best female singers although they're pretty uknown to Western audiences. Now as for the fans, the Eurovision fanbase is increasingly homosexual. That is so many gay people are in the hardcore Eurovision fanbase that they always try to vote for something extravagant, not normal, something like Austria's Conchita for example. You know what I mean? You just have to do a weird act and provoke and there, you have a chance to become the winner. Although in some cases that didn't work,I'm talking about that weirdo Iceland "artist" who kept swearing and acting like a brat in front of the reporters.Or some other weird acts some years ago with Britain usually failing Just watch

Egypt and Morocco are both in Africa, while Lebanon is in Asia. So that would also be why they aren't in a European contest. But I know some countries aren't in it.

Foin: you should start a thread about the style of Arabic music you listen to. I listen to a fair amount of middle eastern and middle eastern-inspired stuff too and I'd like to check that out.

Yes I know, that's why I said I know some countries aren't in it. I just got confused as why the examples you used were all non-European countries.
