Why are swear words suddenly being censored here? I was under the impression this was a forum for adults, not for young kids. It's also annoying since the censoring thing itself is broken, and is getting rid of words that are actually not sweat words at all.

I can appreciate your frustration, Crouton. It's something that Liv the Librarian and the mods have been discussing, so I hope you'll bear with us as we attempt to sort it out in a way that hopefully benefits everyone. |

Basically anything that has ass in it. Mass. Pass. Asset. Cassette. That kind of thing.

Yeah, the whole ass thing is getting out of hand. Some sentences are becoming hard to read.
Although, my original question wasn't answered. In a forum full of adults, why censor swear words at all? I don't think I've ever been in a forum that does that before.
Can we at least not have censorship in the ranting section, so that we can you know... rant?

That's what we're discussing at the moment. We're trying to decide what kind of place we want this forum to be. We might need to allow for the fact that minors may access this site, or we can just not worry about that at all. Either way is a valid course of action. However, if we do account for the possibility of minors accessing the forum then I imagine that sections like NSFW will still be fine for all kinds of language and rants and whatnot.
I do appreciate your thoughts on censorship though. No one here wants that, I'm sure.

the biggest argument to the whole minors accessing this site and picking up inappropriate words is that they get that from everywhere else. TV, games, music and the like. hell I started swearing in 4th grade cause I heard a kid swearing in recess. but nowadays with parents not caring what their kids get into it'll probably be the 'minors' who will end up swearing the most.

Yeah I don't really think we should be blamed if some 6 year old somehow finds this forum and see's a swear word. I highly doubt this place will be the first time any kid see's these words.

We're trying to come to a decision as a mod team on this. As you can imagine, we don't always agree on every single thing when it's first brought up.
For now, I'll get rid of the censorship on "ass" because that's really annoying
