So how many people have seen it and did you like it?
I finally saw it on DVD last month and I loved it. I thought the way they portrayed "true love" in the story was beyond awesome and the story was fantastic for a kid's flick. My kids wanted the soundtrack so we bought it and the music in it is great too. I now have new karaoke tracks for when I drive to work...lol.

I've heard nothing but good things about this one. I want to see it out of curiosity now. I do wish Disney would go back to the traditional cel shaded style though. I really miss seeing that style of animation.

I was underwhelmed by this films at first. Really there wasn't much of a story. The characters weren't that interesting except Elsa and Anna. The songs except "Let it go" weren't memorable, but that's because Alan Menken quit the job, who writes the best songs for Disney flicks. I just wasn't impressed, but I liked the idea that it wasn't the typical 'True love's kiss' theme they used in the ending. It was interesting how it was Elsa herself and I did think how it would have been if they stuck to the idea of Elsa being Anna's girlfriend instead of her sister.

I agree that the story was pretty basic and has a very classical fairy-tale feel to it. There isn't much in the way of originality there. Then again, it is intended primarily as a children's film so I could forgive it that. I think it still worked really well with Anna as Elsa's sister. I'd be surprised if Disney was yet ready to take on that level of controversy. In some ways they seem to still be pretty conservative.

I often compared it to Tangled (or here they call it 'Rapunzel'). And every character I found interesting. Flynn as the love interest was funny and he had his own story, while there was barely anything to be said about Kristoff. With the villain being Hans , there wasn't much to him either. While again in Tangled you had a more interesting villain with an interesting background. The story of Tangled itself is pretty basic as well, but all in all it was better constructed together with more interesting characters, great comedy value, nice memorable songs. Yeah, I certainly prefer Tangled above Frozen. While I thought after re-watching Frozen I thought it certainly had more interesting themes going for it compared to Tangled. But they weren't really developed well. Shame really, that film had great potential.

I like this film a lot. It's not like some amazing flawless film, and some characters aren't that great, but I think Elsa is brilliant. To me she is one of the best Disney characters ever. I don't think I've ever seen a Disney character, let alone a Disney princess portrayed the way she is.
I love Elsa for several reasons. For one, she's introverted, and also depressed. Maybe the little kids who see this film won't understand the deeper meanings in it, but there is a lot in this film about mental illness. Elsa's comparisons to mental illness, depression and anxiety in general are huge. She can't control her powers, which isolates her from friends and family, pushing everyone she loves away. She's scared almost all the time, and she's mostly scared of herself. You can see the fear in her very clearly several times in the film which is pretty amazing to me. She's flawed in ways most other Disney princesses aren't.
Her character was deeply embraced by the LGBT community as well, and for good reason. Her journey reflects that which many gay people go through, and the song Let It Go has lyrics which almost perfectly reflects the struggles that many LGBT people go through every single day. The director of the film has even stated that there is no clear answer whether she is straight or not, leaving it instead up to the audience for now and letting each of us see her how we will.
I also think it's cool that the director of the film has tweeted that they intentionally did portray depression and anxiety through Elsa's character. So it's not just fans over analysing things as it's actually been confirmed. Very cool.

The Disney princesses have come a long way! That's a great point about the LGBT community relating to Elsa, Crou. I think Elsa's struggle is pretty universal for a lot of people. How many people have struggled with not fitting in for one reason or another? Anyone who has ever been on the outside of a group looking in could identify with her, especially if it was something about them that they couldn't change that kept them isolated. There's some powerful messages about tolerance and acceptance of self in that movie...very cool.

To read that they even touch on those themes... well, it makes me want to see this now. I feel like I might relate.

If you do watch it let us know what you think. Do you like Tangled, I think it had a similar feel in some parts. But Tangled was more light-hearted for most of the time. Disney have been doing well recently with their new Princess movies. They have the same charm as some of their classics.

I didn't see that one either, Crouton. I've got a bit of catching up to do, and I admit that I'd gone off Disney films in the last 10 years or so. Might be time to revisit them.

Yeah well they did go downhill for a while but they have picked it up again recently.
I thought Wreck It Ralph, Tangled, Frozen and The Princess and the Frog were all quite good.

I did see Wreck it Ralph, and I enjoyed that one immensely. Of course, that Bowser cameo helped the enjoyment factor quite a bit. Ha ha.
