Ok,here's the question.Supposedly there's a zombie apocalypse or some other kind of disaster like civil law break down or whatever...can you survive for a week?
I was reading an article on the net about apartment preppers and the guy there said something that I liked, forget about surviving for a month or a year, see if you can survive for a week.Talking about food and provisions.
So let's say there's like this...sudden zombie virus outbreak or something, trapped in your apartment or house,do you have what it takes to survive for a week? What canned or other food do you have?Any survival kits etc?
Please post photos and stuff!

We seem to have a lot of natural disasters around here...lol. Our government actually sends out information and reminders to everyone to prepare for disastrous events. They recommend that everyone should be self sufficient for 3 days. We'd last a week at least, probably longer in the winter, because we could melt snow for water. I keep a plastic bin of non-perishable food in the basement for emergency situations. I also have a few emergency wilderness survival guidebooks and lots of books on native plants in the house. God forbid we ever have to face a long-term survival situation, those would be worth their weight in gold.

When it comes to food, we would easily survive one or two weeks. Depending on how fancy one would like to eat. Since I am a horsie person I have plenty of medical supplies in case of accidents. We have plenty of firewood as well and a fireplace so cooking food is not a problem, unless the smoke would attract zombies.

If the zombie apocalypse started today I'd be completely screwed. First off, our apartment is anything but zombie proof. The doorknobs on our closets don't even work, so I'd have nowhere to hide to eat any of the food I don't have stored for an event like this. Do you have any idea how many sleepless nights I've had the past year because of this realization? -.-
Though, if it were the slower more stereotypical zombies, I think we'd be fine. The front entrance to our apartment is guarded by 2 heavy doors and the back entrance is guarded by a sturdy, tall, metal fence. We're also on the 3rd floor. We've got enough mac&cheese to last us about a month, if we ration correctly. Plenty of stale bags of chips lying around as well.

You've got me curious now...about the front doors, because you mentioned 2 of them and the mac&cheese and chips.
Luckily, incredibly,a brand new huge super-market just opened a few meters away from my house and it has everything,it's just gigantic and our old super-market which is down the street looks small and lacks a lot of stuff compared to this one.
Take photos of your provisions and stuff Liv,post them and I'll post mine right after your post!

well well well.... how did i not see this thread.
my ZA survivability has certainly decreased over the last couple of years, due to medical issues i was forced to resign, so income is miniscule which forced me to sell my rifles, my food situation is an issue, though we have enough canned food for the 3 of us for about a week. it will really depend on events outside my control (which have been unspecified by OP) such as 1. what type of zombies? (speed, intelligence etc) 2. are we dealing with a swarm or small packs? 3. are they able to use tools and weapons

We have food for about a week, and I fear our place is hardly zombie proof.
We're boned.

TAZ definetely not zombies that can use weapons etc. I like to think both slow and fast zombies. But not zombies like the ones in "I am legend" movie because in that case if they found out about you, you'd simply have to get out of there.
Taliesin photos! Come on guys!

i don't own a camera.
ok, well slow zombies, even in packs, i can handle. i think i'd be fine with 10-15 zombies if i can maintain a good clearing zone, with my brother in law guarding my niece. my plan would be to get him to his car and send him to my father's place (we have firearms there, as well as it being a regional, wooded area 40km away from the nearest civilisation) while i get to my sister's and my mother's and get the rest of my family clear. I am confident in my ability to be able to move in relative safety, again depending on the zombies and their ability to sense the living.

I wouldn't make it overly long. I got some pocky sticks and a lot of booze but that's about it. granted if I could get some meat I could grill and just have someone fend off the zombies while I'm outside but yea. I'd say maybe a week of survival.

What Taliesin and Midnattblod said. Concerning canned food, I only have two small cans of stew and soup, and a large one with curry sausage (that I've had for at least a year and that I refuse to eat, because a) it's way too much, and b) it's probably super gross). I usually try not to store too much food, and to eat most of what I have before buying new stuff. I would barely last a week.
