So, I've been thinking a lot about my future lately, and the idea of emigrating has crossed my mind several times. This is why I've been wondering whether anyone else in here has ever considered emigrating, or has maybe even done so! If money wasn't a problem, in which country (or countries) would you like to live? And why? Even if you're thinking "Why should I ever leave my home country?" just think about where you could imagine living. I'm just being curious, as usual. As mentioned above, I've seriously thought about leaving Germany before, because I've been thinking that it might make sense to live and work in an English-speaking country, especially when I'm considering a career in academia. The UK and Ireland would definitely be on my list of countries-I-could-live-in, and as I've developed a yet unexplainable fascination for Canada that would be on my list as well. Please keep in mind that I wrote "if money wasn't a problem". That, and all the other challenges emigration might bring along (like, for example, the constant complaints that "x is/would be different in Germany!").

Hmmm... I can't imagine moving anywhere else. I don't speak any other languages fluently so most of Europe, Asia and South America are out. Australia has too many dangerous critters and also has those darn Huntsman spiders...ohhhhh noooooooo! Africa has malaria and Ebola lurking about and Antarctica is just too darn cold. Still, there's something exciting about the thought of emigrating. It would be a radical way to shake things up, that's for sure!

I would move to Finland, Canada or England in a heartbeat. There's something about Finland that seems magical to me (the reality is probably much more mundane), and Canada is probably closest to Australia in terms of having a universal health system and things like that. England would also be a great place to live as you could easily visit other European countries without too much bother.

I love travelling, I love visiting heaps of different countries, but the idea of moving to another country kind of scares me a little. I think I could live in another country for a year or more maybe but then I'd want to come home to Australia.
If I moved somewhere it would have to be an English-speaking country. I've never been great with languages.

Still, there's something exciting about the thought of emigrating. It would be a radical way to shake things up, that's for sure! I can only agree. If I moved somewhere else it would have to be a German- or English-speaking one. I live in a German-speaking one (surprise!) and the other ones aren't really interesting to me (and the dialects in Austria and Switzerland sound like cancer to me). Australia would be amazing without all those critters you mentioned, but I read somewhere you've got to be awfully rich to be allowed to migrate to Australia (this information might be outdated and/or exaggerated, though), so those are two factors already crossing it off the list. well I'm planning on moving back to Germany sometime in the near future so yea. I just gotta start saving up money which will be a bit difficult in my current employment. What are the things you would miss if you moved to Germany? And what are the things you'd enjoy most about living (t)here? Just curious. (That's actually a question to everyone here, not only regarding Germany. What would you miss if you left your home country?) I would move to Finland, Canada or England in a heartbeat. There's something about Finland that seems magical to me (the reality is probably much more mundane), and Canada is probably closest to Australia in terms of having a universal health system and things like that. England would also be a great place to live as you could easily visit other European countries without too much bother. As to Finland: It's the trolls that are so magical, I'm sure! That, or the language. I see that you're considering healthcare to be an important factor, and I absolutely agree. This is one of the (many) reasons I'd never move to the US. I love travelling, I love visiting heaps of different countries, but the idea of moving to another country kind of scares me a little. I think I could live in another country for a year or more maybe but then I'd want to come home to Australia. I'd say it is pretty damn scary! Not only because emigrating might be a huge (financial) risk, but because it means crossing a threshold into the unknown - even if you've done your research beforehand and know what to do. Moving to another country - or continent! - is a huge step, and people who successfully make this step have my deepest respect.

the biggest thing I would miss is my friends and being able to talk to my dad whenever as well as the possibility of actually being able to see him, and I would miss my mom, who won't move back to Germany without my sister.
I would probably enjoy being able to get around by train and whatnot a lot more if I moved back there. And being closer to my family over there would be nice, plus the travel abilities are endless if I were to move back to Europe.
