so I enjoy watching a lot of anime especially when I have the time. I figured I'd start a thread about it. so yea do you enjoy anime and if so which one is your favorite all time and current?
for me my favorite all time is Spice and Wolf, mostly because Holo is so enjoyable to watch. my current favorite is called Log Horizon which I really have to go catch up on soon.

I enjoy anime but I haven't watched it for a while.
I really liked a show called Wolf's Rain, even though it was super depressing. As well as Cowboy Bebop (who doesn't like that?) and another show called Noir.

I'm currently working my way through Fullmetal Alchemist. I don't know why but I fully expected it to be not that great. I was wrong. I love it!
My favourite anime series of all time is not that easy to pick as I've loved a few over the years. However, if I was forced to pick one then I'd go with Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's the one series that blew my head open about what the story possibilities could be for an animated show. Sure, it had giant robots (and who doesn't love that?) but it also had a quite mature storyline that encompassed themes of alienation, hopelessness, personal responsibility, and spirituality in a way that I'd never seen done before.
I was very excited when Hideaki Anno commenced the Rebuild of Evangelion film tetralogy. Basically it's a series of four films that uses 3D CG animation for the Evas and adds new scenes, settings, and characters to the preexisting story. There'll be a new conclusion in the fourth film, with the third one allegedly being quite different from the orginal series too. I've seen the first two installments and they're absolutely amazing.

I enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist. but one question, is it the original or the better Brotherhood?
I also enjoyed Angel Beats a lot. one of very few shows that choked me up.

I've just had my 16 year old goddaughter recommend Angel Beats to me. That's two people now. I may have to check that out. I'm watching through the first Fullmetal Alchemist series, but I do have Brotherhood as well, so I'm looking forward to giving that a spin too.

according to a friend of mine, Brotherhood follows the actual manga whereas the original is more random.
and yes I definitely recommend Angel Beats. just an amazing story and everything.

I enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist. but one question, is it the original or the better Brotherhood? Brotherhood, by a longshot. I also love Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo (though I haven't finished Champloo yet). I've seen all of Inuyasha, but I can't say I really loved it. My boyfriend made me watch it. One of my favourites is The Boondocks.

The only anime I ever watched was a movie called "Akira" (I think that was the name anyway) as a teen. It was so bizarre that I gave up on anime right there and then...lol. Lots of people love it though.

some of them can be very bizarre. I'm actually new to the whole anime thing cause when I was in High School I never really watched anything like that.

Some of them definitely are bizarre. I've never seen Akira, but I've heard that it's a little odd. sjfaerlind, even though your first experience wasn't the greatest, I still highly recommend Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It's a story about humanity, family, and brotherhood. It's absolutely amazing.

Lots of people love it though. If you're looking for something fairly mainstream, I'd recommend Studio Ghibli's stuff (it's Japan's version of Disney/Pixar, really). Miyazaki Hayao is the most famous animator from that studio, as he's done titles such as Spirited Away (which, out of his films, received the most positive accolades in the Western world), Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, etc. (Dunno what to watch that isn't mainstream, since I hate anime with a passion, but Miyazaki's quite good. He also does film-length stuff rather than shows, so yeah.)

Some anime is bizarre, but some if it is also so normal that it's boring. Anime has a large "slice of life" genre where it's just people going about their everday life, there's nothing at all out of blue about it to the point that I find it really dull most of the time haha. So not all anime is crazy and "out there".

I have to admit that the story of Akira took some getting used to for me. Having said that, it's become one of my favourite ever films, and I think because it was very uncompromising about how it unfolded a lot of its themes. Really, when you strip away the "weirdness" it's about the abuse of power and the nature of friendship, and also has a fascinating thread that interweaves notions of evolution and spirituality. It really is a fantastic film. It just doesn't reveal its intent too easily is all, so as a viewer you're required to pay more attention than you might with most other films.

Ahhh... I see. It was so long ago now that I saw Akira, I only remember lots of characters yelling and some kind of shapeless, lumpy thing with veins all over it growing on the screen..... weird!
Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

Code Geass is my all-time-fave to date. It's the only Anime I've ever watched that I haven't predicted what's going to happen next. I've seen a whole rake though, mainly because my friend sits me down and makes me watch them. Simoun, Familiar of Zero, Solty Rae, Attack on Titan (not finished this though), Chrono Crusade, Elfen Lied, Chobits, Ghost Hunt, Wolfs Rain (Didn't ever finish it though). Black Lagoon, I almost forgot about that one. I've watched so many lol.
